The success of the first "Kro's Nest" at Beijing University was an 11th hour miracle for Olaf Kristoffer "the kro" Bauer. Fresh out of school and not entirely sure how to manage a restaurant, Kro was determined to let a superior product do the talking. Unfortunately, good pizza, though able to sell itself, can't do much if there is no one to sell to. After four months of trying and not succeeding to draw big crowds and on the brink of calling it quits, Kro's fortunes turned after a group of ten fate changing customers walked in the restaurant one unassuming Tuesday evening. All ten men and women were New Yorkers (though one was, technically, from Long Island) and at the end of the night, each one of them, to the very last, swore up and down, after having demolished four large pizzas, "Not THIS...THIS shit right here is real New York Pizza." But then, not knowing what quite else to say, though knowing the occasion called for more words, it was a woman, the oldest in the group, that rang out a cry which would become the Kro's banner "THIS is the REAL shit in Beijing!"
Wherever you may be eating Kro's pizza today, in the original Haidian location, our flagship restaurant in Gongti, or on prime Moon crater realestate in the year 2305, just know that we pride ourselves on our humble roots, and that we are exceedingly aware that a product can only remain good so long as we stay true to our original mission, to make a superior pizza. To that end, those of you planning to eat at Kro's tonight - whether in Beijing or on the Moon Crater Protectorate of China in 2305 - please feel free to look forward to your pizza with the heartiest of appetitites and with uncontrolled glee. We are the real shit in Beijing China, and we are going to bring the real shit, hand tossed and fresh, to the rest of the world (and the moon) if you continue to support us.
